Dongfeng eπ007 is a Chinese electric car that borrows some of McLaren's features!
The Chinese company Dongfeng revealed its new electric car, the Dongfeng eπ007, which features a design inspired by the famous James Bond car, with optional scissor-shaped side doors, giving it a similar appearance to the British-made McLaren super sports cars, but at a much lower price.
The eπ007 features a sporty, streamlined design, with a low drag coefficient of 0.209, which is close to the drag coefficient of the Tesla Model S. The car comes with slim LED headlights that extend to the fenders, and is distinguished by the absence of the traditional front grille, which is in line with its electric nature.
The dimensions of “eπ007”, the latest Dongfeng car, are 4880 mm in length, 1895 mm in width and 1460 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2915 mm. The Chinese sports car is available with the option of scissor-shaped side doors when they open upward as an optional specification, which is reminiscent of McLaren sports cars, at an additional cost of approximately 3,058 US dollars.
The price of the Dongfeng eπ007 starts at CNY 159,000 (US$22,100), and the manufacturer also provides a financial support of CNY 10,000 (US$1,390) that can be used to purchase paint, optional equipment or packages chosen by customers.
The interior of the Dongfeng eπ007 features a large 15.6-inch touchscreen on the center console, in addition to an 8.8-inch digital screen in front of the driver that can be flipped, a feature inspired by the McLaren 720S.
The list of other features of the eπ007 includes eight-point massage seats, a premium surround sound system with 20 speakers, multi-colour ambient lighting with the ability to adjust according to the driving style, and a facial recognition system to open the doors.
The eπ007 is also available with several options of drive systems, either front or rear wheel drive.
The basic “53Pro” version starts with a 56.83 kWh battery, which provides a driving range of 530 km on a single charge. The electric motor in this version provides 215 horsepower and 310 Newton meters of torque, and it takes 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour.
As for the medium version, “620Pro,” it comes with a 70.26 kWh battery and an electric motor with a power of 268 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. This version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds, and its driving range on a single charge is 620 km.
The “540 Max” version tops the eπ007 lineup, and comes with the same battery as the “620 Pro” version, but provides a shorter driving range of 540 km. The propulsion system in this version consists of two electric motors that generate a total power of 536 horsepower and 640 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds.
Dongfeng plans to release the “eπ007” car with a longer range using a small internal combustion engine that acts as an electric generator, and it is called “200Pro.”
This version will come with a 1.5-liter engine and a 28.39 kWh battery, with a power of 215 horsepower and a torque of 310 Newton metres. The “200 Pro” can travel a distance of 200 kilometers on electric power only, and the total driving range of this version is 1,200 kilometers.
The eπ007 features a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems, including remote parking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping, and forward collision warning.
“eπ007” is expected to arrive in showrooms in the first quarter of 2024, and Dongfeng plans to launch ten more models over the next three years.
